Brie and Jimbo at the receptionBill and I went out to LA this weekend for Jeff and Julie's wedding and had an absolute blast. I think we might even be ready to move there...
Jeff and Julie's wedding was incredibly beautiful. The location could not have been better (the Ritz-Marina Del Rey) and both bride and groom were looking their best for the special occasion. The reception was at a church in Marina Del Ray, near the Ritz, and was a great Catholic wedding ceremony for Bill and I to experience! Seeing Jeff get teary-eyed as his bride walked down the aisle showed a whole different side of him and was incredibly touching. Jeff looked sharp as a tack in his white dinner jacket, and Julie was stunning in her beautiful v-neck gown, jewels all the way down the neckline and her hair half up showing cascading blond curls over her shoulders.
After the ceremony, we headed back to the Ritz where the cocktail hour was on the deck of the hotel (gorgeous view of the marina!). It was great to have the chance to mingle with Bill's colleagues and get to meet some of their spouses - a really fantastic group! And of course it was fun to see all of the friends and family chat it up with some of Jeff's work friends, which included the likes of Ernie Johnson, Doug Collins, Reggie Miller, Kenny Smith, Marv Levy...
After cocktails, we came inside the hotel for the reception and had an absolutely fabulous evening eating great food and dancing! After Jeff and Julie had their first dance, there were very touching toasts given by the fathers of the bride and groom, as well as by the matron of honor (bride's sister) and the best man (childhood friend of Jeff's). The food was terrific and the room where the reception party was held was beautiful, decorated in dark pink and red, the colors for the wedding.
In addition to the great fun we enjoyed at the wedding, Bill and I had a terrific weekend in LA, hitting some of the hotspots near our hotel in Marina Del Rey, including Santa Monica, Manhattan Beach, and Venice Beach. We enjoyed window shopping in Santa Monica and enjoyed a great lunch out there, but unfortuantely didn't make it to the Santa Monica Pier, as we had hoped. In Manhattan Beach, a total surfer town, we walked out on the pier, watched some surfers and were amazed at the number of volleyball nets set up. They were as far as the eye could see! Apparently this is the home of one of the largest beach volleyball tournaments and the winners from each year's event were listed on gold stars that ran the length of the pier!
We walked to Venice Beach the morning of the wedding and grabbed breakfast in a great little place right in the heart of Venice Beach. We were sitting there eating when a couple with two kids in a stroller (and a pregnant mom) walked by, and after a second of recognition I told Bill I thought it was an old friend from SF. We called out her name and it turned out that it was my old friend Michelle from SF! The last time I saw her she was a single girl who knew EVERY hotspot in SF and was the one we consulted on the best places to go out. A few years later (7, to be exact) Michelle is married, lives in Venice Beach, has two young boys, and is expecting another in a few months. What a coincidence to run into her during the very short time we were in LA!
