Shavout equals...

...2 days off from work! Yeah! Being a Jew and having worked at the JCC for 3.5 years now, I am still working on figuring out what this holiday is all about (Shawna, can you help me, please?), but I certainly am enjoying the time off from work. Spent the morning getting a new tooth (the 2 yr process is FINALLY over, and my pockets are now 100% empty!) and running some errands. Came home and enjoyed some much needed pool time. Can't wait to get out there again tomorrow with the great books and magazines I've had piling up with no time to read them!

Unfortunately, Bill headed out this afternoon for NBA Playoff games in Detroit and Cleveland until Monday. Too bad he will be gone while I am off from work for a few days! If only it was the Western Conference finals he was covering, then maybe I'd have made the trip!

In the meantime, I'll be working on a fun Memorial Day activity for us to do on Monday since he'll be taking an early flight back that morning. Ideas anyone?

Can't believe how quickly the house is coming along - it's beautiful! Thanks for the well wishes.

Shavuoth marks the day the Torah was given to the Jewish people at Mt. Sinai. The occurrence of Shavuot is directly linked to the date of Passover. The Torah mandates the seven-week Counting of the Omer, beginning on the second day of Passover and culminating after seven weeks, Shavuot. This counting of days and weeks expresses anticipation and desire for the Giving of the Torah. At Passover, the Jewish people were freed from being slaves to Pharaoh; at Shavuot they accepted the Torah and became a nation committed to serving God.

I am impressed! Thanks for the quick education. I should sign up for Judaism classes with you (Shawna started taking classes at the JCC recently)!
